Bio: Charlotte Dellal grew up in a prominent family – with her mother and sister, Andrea and Alice Dellal respectively, as well-known models, and her grandfather Jack a known property tycoon in London. She doesn’t borrow much fame from her name, but for her amazing footwear designs.
She attended London College of Fashion and graduated from the famed Cordwainer’s, then went on to work with expert luxury designers Ungaro and Giambattista Valli. Soon after in 2007, she created Charlotte Olympia, her own footwear line whose aethetic borrows from the book Charlotte’s Web, and features her signature golden spider web on the outsoles of each shoe. Her brand is heavily inspired by the nostalgic aesthetic of the 1940′s and ’50s, a style which strongly identifies with. Through sky-high silhouettes and retro prints, her shoes are a direct reflection of her day-to-day style, she describes it as “is super-high heels and Old Hollywood glamour with a sense of humor.”
And that is obvious in her shoes—half-moon faces, kitty cat flats, and clutches complete with a pierrot face are all quirky details we’ve come to see from the designer.
After a collaboration with Agent Provacateur and a recently opened boutique on New York City’s Madison Avenue, she has said her sights are set on L.A. next. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing what amazingly retro collections are going to churn out of Charlotte Dellal.
Fun Facts: Converse is her primary footwear choice when she isn’t wearing a design of her own.
